Kaiyo is a brand that we have supported for a long time and have come to trust their quality implicitly. Although they are a blended malt, they use only Japanese single malts in their production and age the vast majority of their line up in coveted Japanese Mizunara oak casks. As is true for much of the Kaiyo line, the whisky for our new pick was filled into a Mizunara oak cask and loaded onto an ocean liner for several months of aging at sea. This whisky is then bottled at a full strength of 56% abv. We think you will agree that the result is an approachable yet unique example of why Japanese whisky has become so popular.
It's a great privilege for us to present this Roma Exclusive single cask of Kaiyo Japanese Whisky and here are a few tasting notes to give you a better sense of what's waiting for you in this bottle:
- Nose: Yuzu fruit, tangerine, white peach, buttered bread, white gummy bears, and fresh incense.
- Palate: Candied apricots and cream, with subtle hints of spice & sandalwood.
- Finish: The mild spices kick up just a bit at the end, but still leave you with a slightly sweet and fruity flavor with a viscous and buttery texture.
