Located in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, Fabrica de Amigo del Mezcal is a 5th generation palenque helmed by Maestro Mezcalero Enrique Jiménez and is known for producing the respected mezcal brand of Fidencio. The distillery employs 6, 200-liter copper pot stills that are directly fired and encased in brick, leading to a rich, earthy quality of distillate. This añejo bottling of Espadín was distilled in April 2009 and spent 5 years resting in a first fill bourbon barrel before being transferred to glass in 2014. It was bottled at cask strength in October 2018 at 50.9% ABV and is one of 780 bottles. Notes of fresh, exotic fruit and roasted agave meat dance lightly with diesel smoke and fresh tar on the mid-palate, finally relenting to a whisper-finish of honeyed baklava.
