"Founder John L. Loeb Jr. (A U.S. diplomat, veteran, environmentalist, businessman, & philanthropist among other things) has been growing grapes in the Russian River Valley and Alexander Valley since 1973. Sonoma-Loeb's winemaker, Phillip Titus, has been with the winery from the very start, making wines at both Chappellet Winery and Sonoma-Loeb for over 20 years (Sonoma-Loeb was sold to Chappellet in 2011). Phillip has a degree from UC Davis in agronomy, viticulture, & enology, and worked at several notable wineries throughout Napa Valley before joining the Sonoma-Loeb team in 1990. Phillip oversees every detail - from finding great vineyards to creating the final blends. His skill, passion, and wicked sense of humor are the heart & soul of Sonoma-Loeb wines. Along with Daniel Docher, a Frenchman who cut his teeth in winemaking at Hanzell & Wente, and an exceptional team of vineyard & cellar hands, Phillip makes Chardonnays & Pinot Noirs that reflect the unique qualities of their prized vineyard sources: Dutton Ranch & Sangiacomo Vineyard. Phillip and his team believe that the best dirt for growing quality wine grapes is the fine sandy loam known as Goldridge. Adored for it's excellent drainage and low soil fertility, Goldridge amplifies fruit intensity, giving citrusy notes in Chardonnay and big red fruit in Pinot Noir."
